ZITF 2026: Driving Regional Integration Through Connected Economies and Competitive Industries

The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company has unveiled an ambitious theme for its 2026 edition: “Connected Economies, Competitive Industries.” Scheduled to run from 20 to 25 April 2026 at the Zimbabwe Conference and Exhibition Smart City (ZICES) in Bulawayo, this theme underscores a strategic push towards regional integration and industrial competitiveness throughout Southern Africa and beyond.

Dr Nicholas Ndebele, CEO of the ZITF Company, emphasised that the 2026 theme aligns strongly with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the broader continental agenda for industrialisation. “By fostering value addition, regional value chains, and infrastructure development, ZITF 2026 seeks to accelerate Africa’s transformation into a globally competitive business hub,” Dr Ndebele said.

The theme places focus on building resilient, export-ready sectors and reflects the aspirations behind the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, Zimbabwe’s National Industrial Development Policy (ZNIDP), and regional trade protocols. It also invites international partners to engage with Africa’s industrial rise and forge transformative partnerships.

Following the remarkable success of ZITF 2025—which attracted over 800 exhibitors from 30 countries—the organisers are confident that the 2026 edition will be even more impactful. According to Dr Ndebele, there will be heightened private-sector participation, particularly within the manufacturing sector, which has seen its share of the gross domestic product (GDP) grow to 15 percent.

ZITF Company Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, Mr Thandolwenkosi Nkomo, noted that the key business days from 20 to 22 April will be dedicated to high-level conferencing, networking, deal-making, and business-to-business (B2B) engagement. This concentrated period provides a unique opportunity for businesses to showcase innovations, forge strategic alliances, and access new markets.

He further shared that exhibitors have already begun registering on the ZITF digital platform, where they can specify their space requirements, preferred stand locations, and other logistical needs. “We urge businesses and industry leaders to seize the early bird registration to maximise their exposure and benefits,” Mr Nkomo added.

“The AfCFTA is a landmark agreement among 54 African Union countries to create a single continental market for goods and services, enhancing trade and economic integration across Africa.”

ZITF has a rich history spanning over 65 years, established as Zimbabwe’s premier international trade showcase. The event spans six days and includes major features such as the International Business Conference (IBC) and the Connect Africa Symposium. These forums bring together keynote speakers and industry experts who provide valuable insights into trade, investment, and industrial development.

The event’s multi-sectoral nature encompasses manufacturing, agriculture, mining, tourism, and services – reflecting the diverse pillars of Zimbabwe’s economy. ZITF serves as an essential platform for driving socio-economic development, stimulating business innovation, and elevating Zimbabwe’s position as a regional trade hub.

Case Study: Zimbabwe’s Growth in Agro-Processing
Zimbabwean smallholder farmers and agro-processing businesses have exemplified the benefits of regional integration. For instance, the successful expansion of the Mbare agro-processing facility, which transformed locally grown maize into value-added products such as maize meal and snacks, has created employment and expanded export opportunities within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Participation in trade fairs like ZITF has allowed such enterprises to connect with exporters, suppliers, and financiers, helping them scale up operations aligned with NDS2 goals.

NDS2 (National Development Strategy 2) emphasises economic diversification, industrialisation, and enhanced competitiveness to drive inclusive growth. ZITF 2026’s focus on connected economies complements NDS2 by fostering cross-border collaboration, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.

Opportunities for Women and Youth
The 2026 ZITF promises to ramp up youth participation, providing young entrepreneurs with platforms to exhibit innovative products and access mentorship. Women-led enterprises are also encouraged to engage in the fair to amplify their role in industrial sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture.

“Zimbabwe’s NDS2 is a bold government blueprint that prioritises sustainable economic growth, diversification, industrialisation, and social equity from 2021 to 2025.”

By facilitating access to markets, information, and partnerships, ZITF 2026 anticipates empowering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and workers in Zimbabwe and the region.

The organisers have made visitor entry free on business days subject to online pre-registration, encouraging wide participation by consumers, investors, and trade delegations.

In conclusion, ZITF 2026 is poised to be a game-changer that not only boosts Zimbabwe’s industrial prowess but also strengthens regional integration under the AfCFTA umbrella. Through dynamic exhibits, powerful industry dialogues, and strategic networking, the fair will showcase how connected economies breed competitive industries — shaping Africa’s future as a thriving global business destination.
